We headed northeast to a long-planned trip to Yellowstone National
Park last week, and had a good time despite rather cold and rainy/snowy
weather. We saw lots of elk, pronghorns and bison, and even a few bears
with cubs - both a black bear and a grizzly - as well as a coyote and
moose! (Though the moose was by a random river in Idaho, but hey, it
counts.) We also enjoyed seeing the waterfalls, hot springs, geysers,
mud pots, sulfur cauldrons, rapids, canyons, mountains... Enjoy the
gazillion photos!
Our first official exploration - Mammoth Hot Springs.
A little hike down by Tower Falls.
The kids having fun roasting things over the campfire.
On our way down to the Old Faithful geyser area, it started snowing!
Thankfully all the hot springs made warm steam!
Seeing more awesome hot springs on our way to Old Faithful.
We finally made it down to the Old Faithful geyser area, and explored the boardwalks through the geyser area while waiting for Old Faithful to spout.
We were very fortunate to see the Beehive Geyser erupt, we just happened to be there at just the right time, and this geyser actually sprays higher than Old Faithful. It was an experience!
Gareth by the sulfur pots.
A hike by Undine Falls.
Queen and kings of the rock!
A scenic view of bison crossing the road by Soda Butte
Dave (and me below) by one of the many rivers - a very "Northwoods" photo spot.
Last day at Yellowstone - hiking the Upper and Lower Falls before heading south.
The famed (and yellow) Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
And to finish off the trip, we spent a peaceful night in a more remote campground in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, then headed home.
