Yellowstone Camping Trip

We headed northeast to a long-planned trip to Yellowstone National Park last week, and had a good time despite rather cold and rainy/snowy weather.  We saw lots of elk, pronghorns and bison, and even a few bears with cubs - both a black bear and a grizzly - as well as a coyote and moose!  (Though the moose was by a random river in Idaho, but hey, it counts.) We also enjoyed seeing the waterfalls, hot springs, geysers, mud pots, sulfur cauldrons, rapids, canyons, mountains... Enjoy the gazillion photos!

Our first official exploration - Mammoth Hot Springs.

A little hike down by Tower Falls.

The kids having fun roasting things over the campfire.

On our way down to the Old Faithful geyser area,
 it started snowing!

Thankfully all the hot springs made warm steam!

Seeing more awesome hot springs on our way to
Old Faithful.

We finally made it down to the Old Faithful geyser
area, and explored the boardwalks through the
geyser area while waiting for Old Faithful to spout.

We were very fortunate to see the Beehive Geyser erupt,
we just happened to be there at just the right time, and
this geyser actually sprays higher than Old Faithful.
It was an experience!

A hike by Undine Falls.

A scenic view of bison crossing the road by Soda Butte

Dave (and me below) by one of the many rivers - a
very "Northwoods" photo spot.

Last day at Yellowstone - hiking the Upper and
Lower Falls before heading south.

The famed (and yellow) Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

And to finish off the trip, we spent a peaceful night
in a more remote campground in the Bridger-Teton
National Forest, then headed home.

Easter

We just had a low-key, stay-at-home Easter, the big events were the chocolate bunny in the basket in the morning and the egg hunts in afternoon.  It was a lovely day - it's kind of nice when Easter is actually in April!
Sergeant Bucketheads, ready for the egg hunt!

Even Nakita is egg-hunting!

Moab and the Grand Canyon

Yes, it's been waaay too long since I updated the blog.  Sorry!  I will try to post pictures more often, and hopefully no one is disappointed in a title, a summarizing sentence, and then pictures, because that's quick and efficient - which means more pictures more often.  Hopefully, heheh.

SO, the kids had spring break this last week, and we took our camper down to Moab and then all the way down to the Grand Canyon and we had a great time, despite some still rather chilly spring weather. :-)

The Moab area & Dead Horse Point State Park

And onto the Grand Canyon! (Oh, and by the way, we got a dog, that's our coonhound-greyhound mix, Nakita. Awesome dog coat, right?)

We had a lovely chilly white Christmas here at home this year.  My parents drove out from California for a few days to share the holiday week with us.  Lots of fun! :-)

Dave's Birthday!

Dave was at Squadron Officer School in Alabama during his birthday, so we had a party the weekend after he returned.  Emmett created a three-dimensional paper airplane for Daddy.

Vera Gail had a special gift for Daddy too!
